Great marketing can look effortless from the outside. A creative post goes live, an event fills up, a brand finds its voice, and everything seems to fall perfectly into place. Behind that finished product, however, are years of experience, strategy, long hours, and a team deeply invested in making its clients successful.

In this episode of Taylor Community Connection, Tom Cole sits down with Brittany Gibbons, Vice President of 424 Degrees, to talk about the work behind successful digital marketing, the excitement surrounding Downtown Toledo, the changing role of artificial intelligence, and how her professional experience helps her mentor the next generation.

There Is a Skill to Making It Look Easy

424 Degrees is heading into its 13th year, and Brittany says one of the greatest compliments she can receive is hearing that the team's work looks easy.

The reality is very different.

Brittany has spent decades developing her skills, and she explains that the accessibility of social media can sometimes create the impression that anyone who regularly uses Facebook or Instagram can become a professional marketer. Successful digital marketing requires much more than simply knowing how to post.

The 424 Degrees team works behind the scenes to make sure businesses, organizations, events, and community voices reach the right audiences. As a high performance agency, that can mean working until 1 a.m. to make sure the job gets done.

The fun people see online is genuine, but so is the work behind it.

Becoming Invested in Every Brand

One of the qualities Brittany believes sets 424 Degrees apart is how personally the team approaches its clients.

They do not simply promote a business. They work to understand it.

Sometimes that even means helping clients discover their own message. A business owner may know what they do but struggle to explain what makes the organization special or what they want people to understand about their brand. Brittany and her team help find that story, build enthusiasm around it, and communicate it effectively.

That process creates an even greater investment in the outcome.

As Brittany explains, when the agency has helped build the message alongside the client, the team wants to see it succeed just as much as the people behind the business do.

Feeling the Energy of Downtown Toledo

That passion for community is especially visible in Downtown Toledo, where 424 Degrees has established its home among a growing collection of businesses, organizations, events, and creative professionals.

Brittany describes the energy downtown as exciting and says her perspective is shaped by working alongside people who are actively contributing to its growth. From community organizations and major events to other creative agencies and local partners, she sees people investing their time and talent into making downtown better.

For Brittany, who grew up in a rural area and once found Downtown Toledo intimidating, that transformation feels especially significant.

Now, she says, she does not want to leave.

Where Does AI Fit Into Creative Work?

Artificial intelligence has quickly become one of the biggest conversations in marketing and creative industries, and Brittany believes everyone is still learning how to use it responsibly.

She sees potential in AI, particularly if it can help businesses reach a point where they have the resources to invest in professional marketing. At the same time, she believes there are still important questions surrounding how AI affects designers, artists, marketers, and other creative professionals.

Her preference remains clear: support local creative talent whenever possible.

AI may become another tool in the toolbox, but the experience, understanding, relationships, and human creativity behind great marketing remain incredibly valuable.

Facebook Still Matters

While new social platforms and trends continue to emerge, Brittany says businesses should not count Facebook out.

She notes that Facebook usage is particularly strong in the Toledo region and believes the platform continues to be valuable for local businesses trying to reach customers, tell their stories, and drive purchasing decisions.

The way people discover and purchase products changed significantly during the pandemic, and online shopping and digital conversations have become part of everyday life.

For businesses, that makes having the right message in the right place more important than ever.

From Marketing to Mentoring

There is another part of Brittany's life where social media plays an important role.

Outside of 424 Degrees, she is a cheerleading coach at Delta High School.

Brittany sees a natural connection between her professional experience and the mentorship she provides to her cheerleaders. Social media is already part of their daily lives, so rather than pretending it does not exist, she works to help them understand how to use it safely, intelligently, and successfully.

They also create content together, giving the students an opportunity to learn while having fun and expressing themselves.

Brittany understands how permanent an impulsive online decision can become. She talks with Tom about the false sense of protection people sometimes feel behind a keyboard and why taking time before responding emotionally online can prevent decisions that have real world consequences.

That guidance gives her work with the cheerleaders a purpose that extends far beyond practices and games. It is an opportunity to help young women build confidence while learning how to navigate a digital world that will remain part of their personal and professional lives.

Building Something Bigger

Throughout the conversation, one theme continually comes back into focus: investment.

424 Degrees invests in its clients. Brittany invests in the Toledo community. She invests in the young women she coaches. And behind the social posts that may look effortless is a commitment to understanding people and helping their stories reach the audiences who need to hear them.

Great marketing may look easy when it reaches your screen.

As Brittany's story demonstrates, making it look that way is often the result of years of experience, plenty of late nights, and people who care deeply about the work they are putting into the world.
