Recovery does not end when treatment does. For many people, it is just the beginning of a lifelong journey that requires connection, encouragement, and hope. In this episode of Women in the Driver Seat, we sit down with Amy Clark, cofounder of Soul Path Ohio Inc., to talk about the deeply personal experiences that inspired her mission to help people in recovery find lasting community and healing.
Amy's journey began with profound loss. After losing someone close to her to an overdose, she found herself searching for ways to make a difference. Through her family's foundation work, she helped produce two documentaries about the opioid crisis in Northwest Ohio, gaining a deeper understanding of addiction and meeting countless individuals working toward recovery. One person in particular, Justin, became her "why," inspiring the vision that would eventually become Soul Path Ohio.
As Amy learned more about recovery, she recognized a gap that many people experience after completing treatment. While clinical programs often last only a few months, the need for meaningful relationships and ongoing support continues long afterward. Soul Path was created to fill that gap by building a community where people can continue healing together for life.
Today, Soul Path offers opportunities for connection nearly every day of the week. Friday evenings bring families together around the fire during Family Fires, while Saturday mornings feature dedicated support groups including Lion's Den for men and Rooted for women. The organization also hosts retreats, coed programming, outdoor activities, and holistic wellness experiences that help participants strengthen relationships, process trauma, and support one another through every stage of recovery.
Amy believes that community is one of the most powerful tools in recovery. She explains that many participants are learning how to build healthy relationships for the first time, creating a space where vulnerability, accountability, and genuine friendships become part of everyday life. Rather than simply helping people recover from addiction, Soul Path focuses on helping them build lives filled with purpose and belonging.
The conversation also addresses common misconceptions about addiction. Amy explains that opioid addiction can begin much more quickly than many people realize, sometimes after just a single prescription, and that family history can also play a significant role. She hopes greater understanding will replace judgment with compassion and encourage people to seek safer approaches to pain management whenever possible.
One of the stories Amy shares demonstrates the power of long term support. She recalls mentoring a young man early in his recovery journey, helping him discover confidence and purpose through encouragement and opportunity. Today, he has become a leader who is helping others find healing, creating a ripple effect of hope throughout the recovery community.
Looking ahead, Amy's vision for Soul Path is simple but powerful. She wants every person who walks through the door to hear the words, "Welcome home." Not just to a building, but to the person they were always meant to be. Through holistic healing, behavioral health services, outdoor experiences, faith, friendship, and continued support, Soul Path strives to walk alongside people for the rest of their recovery journey.
Amy also encourages the community to get involved. Whether through volunteering, attending events, donating resources, or simply offering time and compassion, every act of support helps strengthen the network of hope surrounding those in recovery. Sometimes, she says, the greatest gift someone can offer is simply listening.
This inspiring conversation reminds us that healing happens through relationships. By creating a community built on compassion, understanding, and belonging, Amy Clark and Soul Path Ohio are helping people discover that recovery is not something they have to face alone.
