Music has the power to shape confidence, inspire creativity, and create a sense of belonging. In this episode of Taylor Community Connection, we sit down with Christina Muntz, Orchestra Director at Woodward High School, to talk about how music education can transform the lives of students both inside and outside the classroom.

Christina shares her journey as a multi instrumentalist and educator and how her passion for music led her to build something meaningful at Woodward. When she first began, the orchestra program included only a handful of students. Through dedication, encouragement, and a focus on connection, the program has grown into a thriving community of young musicians who are discovering both their talent and their confidence.

A key part of Christina’s approach is helping students see music as more than a performance. It can be joyful, intellectually challenging, and deeply personal. By connecting culture, identity, and musical exploration, she creates a space where students feel supported in trying something new and expressing themselves through sound.

Christina also reflects on memorable milestones for her students, including Woodward musicians representing Toledo Public Schools at an Honors Festival. Moments like these reinforce the idea that when students are given the chance to grow, they often rise far beyond what they first believed possible.

This conversation highlights how music education can shape lifelong skills, from discipline and teamwork to creativity and resilience. For many students, the orchestra room becomes more than a classroom. It becomes a place where confidence grows and futures begin to take shape.
