Creating a Place to Call Home: Megan Soto on Community and Care at Majestic Care Commons of Perrysburg

Finding the right senior living community is about much more than choosing a place to live. It is about finding comfort, connection, independence, and a place that truly feels like home. In this episode of Taylor Community Connection, Terry Crosby sits down with Megan Soto, Marketing Director at Majestic Care Commons of Perrysburg, to talk about the heart behind the newly renovated community and its mission to help residents continue living full and connected lives.

Megan's role goes well beyond traditional marketing. While she works to introduce families throughout the area to Majestic Care Commons, she also helps plan activities, develop community partnerships, coordinate special events, and create experiences that bring residents and the surrounding community together. For Megan, building relationships is an important part of making residents feel welcomed from the moment they arrive.

That welcoming atmosphere has become an important part of the community's identity. Megan describes hearing similar feedback from visitors again and again: people may enter as strangers, but they leave feeling like they have become part of the family. It was something she experienced herself when she first walked through the doors.

Helping Residents Age in Place

Majestic Care acquired the Commons in July 2025 after the property had operated as an independent living community for more than 40 years. After evaluating the needs of existing residents, the organization began transitioning the community to assisted living while completing an extensive renovation.

The goal behind that transition is to help residents age in place.

Rather than requiring someone to leave a familiar home as their needs change, Majestic Care Commons can provide additional clinical support while allowing residents to maintain as much independence as possible. Aides and nurses are available to assist with needs such as bathing, toileting, meal reminders, medication administration, and other activities of daily living. The community also partners with AJ's Home Therapy Services to provide occupational, physical, and speech therapy services.

With 125 studio and one bedroom apartments, residents still have personal spaces they can make their own. Apartments include kitchenettes, and residents are encouraged to decorate and personalize their homes so the space feels comfortable and familiar.

More Than a Place to Live

One of the highlights of Terry and Megan's conversation is just how much there is to do.

Residents enjoy restaurant style dining with menus and multiple choices rather than a single meal option. The community also hosts happy hours, outings, activities, and visits from local musicians. Residents have recently enjoyed trips to destinations like the Wood County Fair, while partnerships with organizations such as Sunshine Communities create additional opportunities for companionship and entertainment.

Majestic Care Commons also features an onsite beauty and barber shop, allowing residents to enjoy another everyday convenience without having to leave the community.

The renovated courtyard is becoming another center for activity. Plans include outdoor movie nights using a projector to recreate the fun of going to the movies and potentially even capture the nostalgia of a drive in theater experience. These activities are designed around a simple idea: moving into assisted living should not mean giving up the experiences that make life enjoyable.

Another tradition the team hopes to bring back is the Senior Prom. The Commons was once known for the event, and Megan says plans are underway to revive it with support from community partners and sponsors. It is one more opportunity to give residents something special to look forward to while bringing people together for an unforgettable experience.

Building Community Through Partnership

During the conversation, Terry also shares Taylor Automotive Family's excitement about building a relationship with Majestic Care Commons and supporting future programming for its residents. Partnerships like these can help create even more activities and experiences for older adults while keeping them connected to the larger Perrysburg and Northwest Ohio community.

At the heart of everything Megan describes is the belief that senior living should still feel like living.

Residents should be able to maintain independence, enjoy good food, spend time with friends, participate in activities, explore the community, and receive additional care when they need it. Most importantly, they should feel like they belong.
