True impact often comes from the simplest acts done with intention. In this episode of Taylor Community Connection, we sit down with George M. Benson, Director of Community Engagement at Trinity Episcopal Church, to talk about a ministry rooted in consistency, dignity, and human connection.
George shares the story behind Trinity’s Weekly Community Breakfast, which was restarted after the pandemic when it became clear that access to a warm Sunday meal was still a challenge for many neighbors downtown. For individuals who are unhoused or living on the margins, this breakfast is more than a meal. It is a place of welcome and belonging.
What makes this experience unique is how it is served. Guests are invited to sit at real tables, enjoy meals on real plates, and be served by volunteers in a restaurant style setting. This approach is intentional. It ensures that every person who walks through the door feels seen, respected, and valued.
In our conversation, George explains how the breakfast becomes a catalyst for building relationships and trust. Over time, familiar faces become meaningful connections, and those connections create a sense of community that goes far beyond the meal itself.
He also reflects on Trinity’s Homeless Jesus statue, a powerful symbol that encourages people to pause, notice, and reflect on how society treats those who are often overlooked. The statue has become a starting point for important conversations about compassion, awareness, and responsibility.
This episode is a reminder that dignity matters, and that small acts of care can create lasting impact when they are rooted in respect and connection.
