When communities are built with understanding and compassion, everyone has the opportunity to thrive. This week on Women in the Driver Seat we sit down with Stacy Harper, Executive Director of Avenues for Autism, a local nonprofit committed to helping individuals and families affected by autism live without limits.
Founded in 2001 by the Tyner family, Avenues for Autism provides wraparound services that support individuals of all ages. These services include individualized planning, advocacy, inclusion support, and programs designed to help people feel confident, comfortable, and connected in their everyday lives. Stacy shares how the organization’s work is inspired by the resilience, creativity, and determination of the individuals and families they serve.
In our conversation, Stacy highlights the rapid growth of the Autism Counseling and Support Services program and the importance of accessible, high quality care. She explains how telehealth services help reach more families and how innovative group therapy experiences, including cooking classes, create meaningful opportunities for connection, learning, and independence.
Stacy also discusses the critical role partnerships play in building inclusive communities. Collaboration with schools, families, employers, and community organizations helps bridge gaps in services and create environments where individuals with autism are supported and understood. She shares how volunteers and sponsors can get involved and why collective effort is essential to advancing the mission.
This episode is a powerful reminder that inclusion is not a one size fits all approach. It is built through compassion, collaboration, and a commitment to seeing every person for who they are and what they can achieve.
